from the Validation Institute

  • Company is the first in the industry to apply definition and rigorous measurement standards to the popular Food as Medicine movement

  • Ayble members can use the app to discover new foods among more than 200,000 grocery products from over over 100 grocery retail brands and 40,000 store locations

  • Ayble is also the first and only gastroenterology company to achieve certification from the Validation Institute for IBS and IBD patient outcomes

BOSTON, Sept. 19, 2023Ayble Health, a digital health platform for patients with chronic gastrointestinal (GI) conditions, today announced it is the first digital health company to receive the prestigious FoodMed Certification from the Validation Institute (VI). This achievement underscores the company's dedication to delivering a reliable and evidence-based solution for those struggling with chronic digestive health conditions, utilizing nutrition as the key to unlock symptom relief. Ayble is also the first and only GI company to meet the high standards of the institute, achieving certification for its IBS and IBD patient outcomes in 2022.

The Food as Medicine movement has gained significant traction in recent years, with a growing recognition of the profound impact that diet can have on health outcomes. However, one critical aspect that often remains overlooked is the lack of comprehensive measurement and assessment of this approach as it can encompass everything from medically-tailored meals to supplements.

The Validation Institute is the premier organization that validates the performance claims healthcare companies make, and its FoodMed certification is a new program designed to vet and verify the effectiveness and evidence base of nutrition-based tools and solutions that claim to enable individuals and employers to improve health outcomes. With founding members across the entire healthcare ecosystem, including Albertsons Companies, Avēsis, Mom's Meals®, and Uber Health, the FoodMed Certified program enables organizations to build a better understanding of food as medicine programs' potential impact on patient outcomes.

Available as app-based virtual care, Ayble guides members through through four phases of its

personalized nutrition program: Identification, Elimination, Reintroduction and Application. This clinically rigorous approach takes into account expansive patient biographical, diet, allergy, lifestyle and symptom information, then marries it with the world’s largest GI behavioral health data set to personalize treatment plans. With assistance from a full-featured gut health tracker and dedicated health coach, Ayble members are empowered to identify root causes of flares and GI discomfort. Ayble is proven to deliver 50% better outcomes and be two times more effective than working one-on-one with a dietitian.

Members can also use the Ayble app to discover compatible foods among more than 200,000 grocery products from over 100 retail brands in 40,000+ stores nationwide including: Albertsons, Kroger, Instacart, Target, Walmart and Whole Foods. Users simply scan a barcode in stores to understand if a food is compatible with their custom Ayble diet and other dietary preferences like whether a food is fair trade, halal, kosher, organic or vegan. The Ayble database grows by up to 10,000 new items each month, and the company is constantly growing its roster of stores and brands to provide members with an ever-expanding range of options and choices.

“I struggled for years using diet as a therapeutic tool for my digestive disease. Inspired by my own journey, Ayble has developed a personalized nutrition program with the best outcomes in the industry,” said Sam Jactel, founder and CEO, Ayble. “Since our inception, we’ve led the industry in clinical validation. We  have published research in the most renowned gastroenterology journals and built clinical partnerships with leading institutions across the country. We are proud to partner with the Validation Institute and the founding members of the FoodMed Certified program to lead the charge on developing a framework with which to measure Food as Medicine solutions."

By directly linking food intake to clinical symptoms, measuring how they are interrelated over the course of the Ayble program, and publishing its research results, Ayble aims to set a new standard for scientific validation in the Food as Medicine industry.

“At the VI, we apply stringent and rigorous standards to companies we evaluate for FoodMed certification. Ayble’s commitment to providing high quality nutritional solutions for people with chronic GI conditions is remarkable and exactly the kind of evidence-based solution we look for in our certified partners,” said Benny DiCecca, CEO of the Validation Institute. "Our comprehensive review found that the Ayble program achieves meaningful, long-term clinical results for its members.”

Ayble is the first and only gastroenterology company accredited by the American Nutrition Association and the VI. In its Outcomes Report, the VI highlighted that Ayble’s precision nutrition program is two times more effective than in-person or virtual dietetics and drives 30-40% better adherence to recommendations.
